Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 27, 2018) – Derek Hagar recorded his fifth podium finish in his last eight races on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway, where he piloted a 305ci winged sprint car for Jerry Caldwell.
“We ran into some overheating issues in the heat race and we worked on that all the way to the feature,” Hagar said. “We changed quite a bit of stuff. I’m not sure what fixed it, but we ran a good temperature in the feature.”
Hagar maneuvered from sixth to third place in the heat race before he advanced from eighth to third in the A Main.
“We got through there pretty quick and were running fourth,” he said. “I was working on third place for a while. We kept having caution after caution. I finally got a break and got by him. Then I started working on second place and caught traffic at the wrong time. With those 305s you can’t break your momentum and I broke mine a couple of times. It’s hard to play catch-up.”
Hagar’s third-place result was his ninth top five of the season.
He is slated to return to his No. 9jr for a trio of ASCS Mid-South Region races this weekend. The action begins on Thursday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., before shifting to Crowley’s Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., on Friday. The weekend will wrap up for Hagar on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
“We have a fresh powerplant,” he said. “The weather will be hot. That will take a toll on me and the crew and the race car. We have to play everything safe and keep a close eye on the motor because it’s a new piece. We changed some things so we have to make sure everything will work out. We’ve won at all three of these tracks so hopefully we can come away with some good finishes.”
